But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” (Exodus 14:13-14 NLT)
As Israel came to the Red Sea and the Egyptian army came after them, fear set in the minds of the Israelites. Some of them complained to Moses that they should have stayed in Egypt instead of seeking the land that God had promised.
As we follow God, there will be places along the journey where things look very uncertain. In these moments - when fear comes - we will be tempted to come up with our own solutions. Fear can make us impulsive and cause us to take short cuts instead of waiting on God. Look at the statements in this passage as you consider your own fears that you are facing:
